MFHA's last Cultural Intelligence (CI) event, EFFECTIVELY ENGAGING MULTICULTURAL EMPLOYEES: THE MYTHS, PERCEPTIONS AND THE REALITIES took place on Tuesday, April 10 at the Pizza Hut C.O.R.E. Center in Plano, TX. For event details, click here.
MFHA’s Cultural Intelligence (CI) Initiative is the result of the organization’s evolution from its diversity and inclusion roots. Since its launch with Johnson & Wales University in early 2011, MFHA’s primary goal is to deliver a series of cultural intelligence workshops and seminars in 2012 in various cities nationwide.
The highly interactive, solution-oriented workshops create an open space for attendees to have intelligent discussions about race, ethnicity and culture in the workplace. Presentation topics include Latino Identity, Break Black/African-American Perspectives, Asian Insights and LGBT Employees.

The last Cultural Intelligence event, "The LGBT Opportunity: Innovative Strategies to Engage LGBT Employees and Guests," took place on Friday, February 10, 2012 at the North Miami Campus of Johnson & Wales University.
Led by Lou Kaucic, former Applebee’s chief people officer and founder of Coaches Collective International, the session focused on making the business case for engaging LGBT employees and guests. Interactive exercises helped attendees experience a “taste” of what it feels like to be LGBT in the industry. Leaders from McDonald’s, Burger King, Cracker Barrel and Yum! Brands, to name a few, participated in the workshop and vowed to take back key insights and action steps to their companies.
Learning Outcomes
- The event inspired over 90% of survey takers to change the way they approach LGBT employees or guests.
- 100% of survey takers said the event had moderate to major impact on them and them and their perceptions of LGBT employees and guests.
- Prior to the event 39% of survey takers ranked their LGBT Cultural Intelligence as above average. After the event, that number had increased 22%.
